The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) Grant is often mentioned when talking about the installation of EV charge points. Keep reading and we’ll tell you all you need to know.

What is the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) Grant?

The WCS Grant is a UK government initiative run by the OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) to help workplaces with the initial cost and installation of EV charge points, in an attempt to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles and reduce the country’s vehicle emissions in a bid to manage our overall impact on climate change.

By installing electric vehicle charge points in your place of work you will be encouraging the uptake of electric vehicles within your workforce, as well as opening up the possibility for public EV charging and owning an EV fleet. The WCS has already funded the installation of over 36,000 sockets in workplace car parks since the scheme started in 2016.

How Much is the OZEV WCS Grant?

The OZEV WCS Grant is voucher-based and qualifying applicants will be able to claim up to £14,000 towards the up-front cost and installation of electric charge points. The WCS Grant provides a 75% contribution to each EV charge socket with a cap of £350 per unit. Applicants can apply for up to 40 sockets per business across multiple sites.

Who is Eligible?

The WCS Grant is available to any business, charity or public sector organisation. Other criteria that need to be met are:

  • To be a public authority or have received less than €200,000 of public support within the last 3 fiscal years.
  • Can declare a need for electric vehicle charging equipment with an intent to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles within their workplace or fleet.
  • Has dedicated off-street parking and consent to install electric vehicle charge points within the applied area.
